About Us

Shroom Stop was started by two brothers on a mission to combat Climate Change, Food Waste, and Food Insecurity.

We’re a startup Agri/Biotech company developing novel technologies to upcycle nutrients from all food waste. Shroom Stop is first of its kind, we’re developing Carbon Negative Products by utilizing 100% Waste.

Food Waste

Food Waste refers to all food that is grown, harvested, processed, manufactured or prepared for human consumption, but never eaten by people. It occurs at all stages of the food supply chain, from farm to plate.

In Canada and around the world, food waste continues to increase, resulting in an overuse of our natural resources such as water, soil and land, while contributing excess greenhouse gas emissions to our atmosphere. Meanwhile, a growing number of Canadians are facing food insecurity.

Every Day, Canadians Produce More Than 100 Million Tonnes of Food Waste.

Started by two brothers born and raised in Vancouver, BC, the Shroom Stop founders started with a very simple goal.

How can we prevent people from wasting so much food, in a way that is convenient for everyone?

How can we recover and make use of all the wasted nutrients in Food Waste?

The answer?

Make growing your own food more accessible by limiting transportation, processing, and manufacturing steps.

Thus Shroom Stop was created!

Shroom Stop Inc.

Shroom Stop Inc. provides mycological supplies to the hobbyist growers while engaging retail consumers about the benefits of Mushrooms.

We’re the First Stop for all your mycological needs.

Shroom Stop Design & Applied Sciences Inc.

Our technology transforms the way we treat Food Waste by recovering nutrients for human and plant consumption.

Utilizing nature's best decomposers and our innovative Process, we plan to commercialize nature's mycelium nutrient cycle or “My-cycling”. Our strains of Mushroom are capable of breaking down complex molecules down to simple carbon.

Differentiating ourselves from current technologies like insect rearing, compost, or digesters by growing a nutrient-rich product to be consumed by humans, animals, and plants directly from Food Waste.

Our innovative process doesn’t require additional potable (Drinking) water to grow mushrooms as the Food Waste contains all the necessary water. Nutrients from packaging such as cardboard, paper, certain plastics, and hydrocarbons can be utilized. Advantages of our technology are no unpleasant odors, doesn’t require a balanced diet, less prone to pests and foreign contaminants.

Mushrooms have been shown to digest and break down micro-plastics and myco-toxins, preventing bioaccumulation compared to traditional methods. In addition, by-products of our process such as mushroom manure and mycelium blocks can be converted into value-added products. Spent substrate can be baked to create construction blocks, air/water filters, packaging. Left untreated spent mushroom substrate can be planted to protect against soil erosion, site run-off, and aid in remediation of contaminated sites. Furthermore, live mycelium blocks can capture and store carbon.

This is a highly sustainable method in addressing and combating Food Waste, Food Insecurity, and Climate Change.
